Private label squalane formulas

Squalane is a light, stable emollient made by hydrogenating squalene, a lipid found naturally in skin's own sebum. Cosmetic squalane is commonly sourced from olives or sugarcane. It gives a silky, non-greasy feel and helps skin feel soft and supple. Our catalogue carries it in serums, gel creams, creams, an emulsion and an eye hydrator. Brands can sample and brand them from 500 units per product.

Which ready formulas use squalane?

Developing a squalane product

Squalane fits almost any leave-on format. A pure or high-squalane oil suits a minimalist face oil. In serums it adds slip, and in gel creams and creams it gives cushion without heaviness. Lightweight eye hydrators use it for a smooth, comfortable finish.

Texture and pairing choices

Squalane is odourless, colourless and far more stable against oxidation than squalene and many plant oils. That makes it a useful carrier for oil-soluble ingredients such as retinol and bakuchiol. It also pairs well with hyaluronic acid and ceramides in hydrating routines.

Sourcing

Squalane was historically sourced from shark liver. Today most brands specify plant-derived squalane, from olive or sugarcane, and ask for supplier documentation confirming the source. That documentation supports "plant-derived" and vegan wording on pack.

Packaging

Pure squalane oils suit dropper bottles. Serums and creams that combine squalane with light-sensitive partners such as retinol need airless or opaque packs.

Claims to check

  • "Similar to a lipid in skin's own sebum" is accurate; stronger "skin-identical" wording should be used carefully.
  • Moisture or long-lasting hydration claims need test data.

Because squalane has no scent or colour of its own, it suits fragrance-free positioning and lets other ingredients lead the story. Many brands use a pure squalane oil as an entry product, then build serums and creams around it.

Questions about squalane products

What is the difference between squalane and squalene?

Squalene is a lipid found naturally in skin's sebum and in some plant oils, but it oxidises easily. Squalane is squalene that has been hydrogenated, which makes it far more stable, odourless and suitable for long shelf life. Cosmetic formulas almost always use squalane rather than squalene.

Is squalane vegan?

It can be. Squalane was once sourced from shark liver, but most cosmetic squalane today is plant-derived, from olives or sugarcane. To make a vegan or plant-derived claim, ask for supplier documentation confirming the source of the squalane in your chosen formula and keep it with your product file.

What is the minimum order for a private label squalane product?

Ready formulas in our catalogue start from 500 units per product, including serums, gel creams, creams and an eye hydrator. Request samples first to check texture, scent and feel, then choose your pack and add your own branding. Changes to the formula, scent or packaging are quoted separately, based on your brief.
